When you start up Tipograf it presents you a dialog made up of several
tabs. In any case, you must specify an input file to be printed or
converted into a PostScript file. You can do this either by entering a
file name in the input file field or by choosing one through the
Choose button. If you want to produce a PostScript file rather than
print the input file you need to specify an output file name and
select ``file'' in the ``Output to'' combo box. Once you
are done with that there are three ways of using Tipograf to
accomplish the task:
- If you do not care too much about how the output will
be formatted just click on the Go! button. This leaves all the
configuration to a2ps and will print the file on the default printer
or create the requested PostScript file. You might want to use some
simple options by unchecking the Disable checkbox and selecting some
preferences in the lower half of the dialog.
- If you want to influence the behavior of a2ps just a bit more
you may want to choose a standard style from the Standard style
combo box. In this case you can also uncheck the Disable checkbox to
choose some simple options.
- Finally, you can select ``self defined'' from the Standard style
combo box. Then all tabs of the dialog are enabled, and you can use
nearly all of a2ps's switches to tweak the output. In case you want
to save your current settings (except for GUI language and style)
you can use the Tipo tab's Configuration file section. First specify
a valid file name, then click on the Save config button. Next time
you start Tipograf you can load the old configuration by choosing
the configuration file name and then hitting the Load config
button.
Tipograf uses the file ~/.tipografrc
to store the values that
you see in the Tipo tab of the main dialog. So, when you save a
printing configuration file somewhere do not overwrite
~/.tipografrc
.
