----------------------------------------- FreeBSD 2.1.7.1 --- RELEASE Version , , ----------------------------------------- /( )` \ \___ / | Welcome to the 2.1.7.1 RELEASE version of FreeBSD! /- _ `-/ ' This is the follow-on release to 2.1R, and focuses (/\/ \ \ /\ primarily on fixing bugs, closing security holes / / | ` \ and conservative enhancements. Build a new kernel, reboot. You're basically running all the major improvements in 2.1.7.1 now, but if you also want to be thorough about it then you could also extract the full 2.1.7.1 sources and make the world. o Binary upgrade: For this, it's probably best to simply use 2.1.7.1's upgrade option and just select the bin distribution. This will get you new binaries and a new 2.1.7.1 kernel to run. Again, very little in 2.1.7.1 has changed and mostly in the area of the SCSI drivers (more specificially, the Adaptec 2940 support under heavy load). If your 2.1.7 system is working well for you, you probably don't need to touch it - this only occasionally affects heavily loaded machines, like news servers. ** Most files here are also in the Documentation Menu of the boot floppy ** ROAD MAP: README.TXT This file.
