Blob and Conquer supports a fairly primitive localisation system. If you wish to translate B&C in to another language then the information below will be useful to you. Blob and Conquer usually starts up using the default system language and will fall back to English for this parts of the game which haven't been translated.
Localisation files live in the data/locale directory of the source. They also live in locale file specified by individual missions. The files are in formatted in plain text.
The formatting of the locale files is as below (taken from the battle file)
HINT_SAVE | en | Press ACTION to Save Game |
HINT_INFO | en | Press ACTION to get Information |
INFO_PICKED_UP | en | Picked up %s |
ITEM_REQUIRED | en | %s required |
The first column represents the key for the localisation string. The second column column represents the language identifier (in this case, English). The final column represents the translated string.
Translating is simply a case of adding in the appropriate key-value pairs for the language you desire. So, for example, if you wanted to add in some French values you would add in a line as such,
HINT_SAVE | fr | <Translated French String> |
When running the game in French the game will load up the string for HINT_SAVE and display this instead of the English string.
NOTE: All lines must end with a semi colon! Also multi line strings are not supported (ie - all your text for that key-value pair must be on the same line). The game will give you little warning of issues with this. Again, (as it appears in the file)
HINT_USE_SWITCH en Press ACTION to activate switch;
Note the semi colon at the end of the line.
