$(cpicName) Help - Sorting Files
Many different sorting options ensures that you can quickly optimize the File List view to help you find files faster. |
--> |
You can also set the sort method in the File List Preferences.
Sorting Options (Thumbnail Views)
Name (Alphabetic)
When files are sorted by alphabetic name, the files in the File List will follow traditional
alphabetic ordering. For example, a file named 'a02.jpg' will be listed before a file
called 'b02.jpg'
Name (Numeric)
When sorted numerically, files will be sorted according to the numeric value in the names.
For example, if you have two files 'a2.jpg' and 'a19.jpg,' sorting numerically will place 'a2.jpg'
before 'a19.jpg' because 2 is less than 19. (This is the opposite of how the alphabetic
name sort would work. The alphabetic name sort would list 'a19.jpg' first, because 'a1' comes
before 'a2.'
Date / Time
In the date / time sort mode, files will be ordered according to when they were created.
The newest files will be listed at the end of the File List.
File Size
Sorting by file size will arrange the files in the File LIst according to how big the image
file is (the amount of space it takes up on disk). Files are sorted from smaller to larger.
Decompressed Size
When sorted by decompressed size, images are sorted according to how large the
raw image data is. Many graphics formats are compressed, so the file on your
hard drive is much smaller than the file which your computer has in memory when the
image is loaded. Smaller files are listed first.
Image Area
Sorting by image area will list the files according to total surface area, from smaller
to larger.
Path
If files are sorted according to path, any files in the same directory will be listed
together. This sorting mode is very useful when browsing multiple directory
contents or search results.
Detected File Type
The detected file type sort mode lists files according to their actual file type. The actual
file format of any file may be different from the extension due to misnaming, or differences
between applications. Formats are ordered alphabetically according to the name of the
format and the files for each format are sorted using the numeric name sort.
Extension
Sorting by extension will list the files in order according to the file extension in the name. Files
with no extension will be listed first.
Orientation
In the orientation sort mode, files are ordered according to their orientation (vertical to horizontal).
The files are arranged by how vertical they are (the aspect ratio), with 'more vertical' files displayed
first.
Width
When sorting by width, files are arranged in order of increasing width, with the widest files
appearing last.
Height
Sorting by height will order the files according to the height of the file, with the tallest files
appearing last.
Thumbnailed
Using the thumbnailed sort view will list all files for which
Sorting Options (Details View) When using the Details View, you can sort by any of the methods above. In addition, you can click on any of the column headers to sort by that column.
If the column you'd like to sort by isn't visible, you can right click on the column headers and select the column you would like to display. Once displayed, you can click that column header to sort by that field.
Reversing the Sort Order You can reverse the order of any sort option by selecting 'Reverse Sort Order' from the 'Sort' menu after right clicking in the File List.
In the Detail View, you can reverse sort by clicking on the column header you are currently sorted by. For example, if your list is sorted by Name, clicking the Name column header will reverse the sort order.
